The local authorities in Morocco’s capital, Rabat, plan to name one of the city’s prominent streets in the upscale Riyadh district after U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the news outlet Maghreb Intelligence.
The decision comes as a tribute to the stance taken by the Trump administration in December 2020, when the United States recognized Morocco’s full sovereignty over its southern provinces—a move widely described at the time as a turning point in the course of the national cause.
An official ceremony is expected to be held to inaugurate the new name, with the attendance of prominent political, cultural, and media figures, in a celebration that highlights the strength of Moroccan-American relations.
